Bringing up the next generation is the toughest job in the world. Fact!! It doesn’t matter what age you are, how much money you do or don’t have, or how successful you have been. It is impossible to look like you have your shit together all of the time. ‘I don’t know how you do it?’, those words have been repeated to me time and time again in the past 6 years, since starting my own business, having my youngest, and having 3 very young children. My honest reply ‘I don’t’. I already look older than my years, I consume my fair share of wine per week and yes, I do shout at my kids, a lot!
Many of us try to play the ‘Earth Mummy’ role, but as 5pm approaches and they have fought over who’s sitting in the front of the car, for the fourth time that day, or who’s choosing what’s on tv, who hit, flicked or punched who first, then ‘Earth Mummy’ has well and truly left the building. You then start to understand why some animals eat their young!
Truth of the matter is, we don’t do it all, we don’t have all our ‘shit’ together and we need to stop judging and comparing. Who really has the perfect home, relationship, career? Who really spends their days impersonating Delia Smith or turning their home into Hobby Craft?
So before you think you are doing it all wrong, can’t give you kids enough, or aren’t coping, as long as they are being fed, they know you love them and they feel safe, then really what else matters. Be proud that you are doing the toughest job in the world !!!
